At Mission Ready, we’re thrilled to introduce Corinne Davies as our UX Design trainer, bringing decades of experience, deep industry insight, and an infectious passion for human-centred design. With a career spanning over 20 years in tech, Corinne’s journey into UX design is a testament to the power of curiosity, adaptability, and a relentless drive to improve digital experiences for real people.

From Science to UX: Corinne’s Career Evolution

Corinne’s path to UX was anything but conventional. After high school, she ventured into biochemistry and genetics, eventually earning a master’s degree in immunology. But after five years in the lab, she realised that a career in science wasn’t her calling. Instead, she transitioned into roles supporting the commercialisation of science and tech research before discovering web development—a move that would change her trajectory forever.

“I stumbled into front-end development out of necessity,” Corinne recalls. “My partner at the time was unwell, and I needed a career that offered flexibility. I saw the potential in tech, especially in web development, so I taught myself and landed my first freelance clients within six months.”

Her early work involved building websites when the internet was still in its infancy, designing for businesses that were just beginning to establish their online presence. Over time, she noticed a shift in the industry—from simply making websites functional to designing them with the user in mind. This curiosity led her into UX design, where she found her true passion: improving how people interact with technology.

Why UX? The Human-Centred Approach

For Corinne, UX design isn’t just about creating aesthetically pleasing interfaces—it’s about solving real-world problems and making technology more intuitive.

“I love UX because it’s not just about ‘Can we build this?’ but ‘Should we build this, and how can we make it better for the people using it?’" she explains. “It combines human behaviour, problem-solving, and design thinking to create digital experiences that actually work.”

Her work today spans a variety of projects, from helping start-ups develop their first product to optimising existing platforms for established companies. She thrives on the diversity of challenges, whether conducting user research, prototyping new features, or refining design systems.

“You never get bored in UX,” she says. “Every day is different. One week you might be deep in research, interviewing users, and the next, you’re collaborating with developers to bring a design to life.”

What Makes Mission Ready’s UX Programme Unique?

As the UX trainer at Mission Ready, Corinne is passionate about equipping aspiring designers with the skills they need to thrive in the industry. The UX accelerator isn’t just about learning design tools—it’s about preparing candidates for the realities of working in tech.

“Our programme is focused on real-world projects,” she explains. “We don’t just teach theory or have students follow tutorial-based exercises. Candidates work on actual problems, just like they would in a professional setting. They learn how to conduct user research, apply design thinking, and present their solutions to stakeholders. They collaborate with development teams making them hit the ground running faster than most other candidates.”

This practical approach ensures that graduates don’t just walk away with technical knowledge but also the confidence to step into a UX role and contribute meaningfully from day one.

Advice for Aspiring UX Designers

For those considering a career in UX, Corinne emphasises the importance of curiosity.

“The best UX designers are those who ask ‘why?’,” she says. “Why is this designed the way it is? Why do users struggle with this feature? If you find yourself frustrated by bad design and excited by intuitive digital experiences, UX might be the perfect field for you.”

She also encourages hands-on exploration. “Take screenshots of apps and websites you love (or hate) and analyse them. Think about what makes them work well—or what could be improved. The more you observe and question, the better you’ll be at designing solutions that make a difference.”

The Future of UX in the Age of AI

As AI continues to reshape industries, UX designers must adapt. Corinne sees AI as a tool that can enhance, rather than replace, UX work.

“AI is fantastic for speeding up certain tasks, like analysing large amounts of user research data,” she says. “But at the end of the day, UX is about understanding human needs, and that’s something AI can’t fully replicate.”

She predicts that future UX roles will involve more AI-driven tools within design software, helping streamline workflows while still requiring human insight to interpret findings and create meaningful experiences.
